Language Festival

In October we celebrated the Festival of Languages. Each class chose a different foreign language. Over several days, pupils learnt basic phrases in the chosen language and the culture and traditions of the country in which it is used. German, Macedonian and Japanese could be heard in the school corridors.

On the occasion of the Festival of Languages in the class 2a, we hosted the mother of one of the students, who told the children about Japan and her native language. Additionally, the students took a quiz prepared by their older classmates from grade 4.

Class 2b prepared a few German lessons. You can learn the names of pets, colors and the most common phrases with us. (Nie mamy zdjęć, nagrałyśmy filmy)

On the occasion of the Language Festival, class 1a expanded the knowledge of European countries. The students created a map together with information about European countries. Then we played the role of linguists and tried to guess the origin and meaning of selected foreign words. Finally, we checked how many new words we managed to remember – we played a language memory game. The children’s experiences from their holiday travels helped us a lot in this!

In October classes 3a and 3b celebrated a language festival. On this occasion, students of both classes prepared a short movie in the form of a quiz on languages and symbols. Children in selected groups prepared a question and an answer in the form of a poster. It was both a form of fun and work as part of our Unit of Inquiry “Signs and symbols”.

On the day of the Festival of Languages class 4B invited Dimitar and Timur’s parents. The boys, together with their parents, introduced Macedonian and Russian languages. Dimitar’s dad prepared a presentation in which he described general characteristics of Macedonian language. Timur and his mom read The Crow and cheese rhyme in Russian language. On the white board we wrote our names in Macedonian and Russian languages. During the IT classes we played two Kahoot quizzes – How to say ‘’Mom’’ in 10 languages and Animal Sounds around the world. At the end of the day each student created their Language Profile.

In grade 4a, students had the opportunity to learn more about the native languages of their classmates. They participated in exceptional lessons conducted by them. Our Russian-speaking experts were Żenia, Ola, Michał and Lev. They prepared a presentation about the origin of this language and drew attention to the similarities and differences between the Russian and Polish languages. They also helped solve puzzles in Russian.
The Spanish language expert was Curro, who introduced famous people from Spain and taught us the names of professions in Spanish.
Later, everyone has created their own language profile in the portfolio.
