Understanding properties of air
We breathe air, our Planet is full of this gas, which is… Exactly, what is THIS gas? Third graders faced the discovery of the properties of air by designing their own research experiments. In order to examine the chosen property of air, step by step, the third-graders used the research method, guided by specific steps of the research procedure. Each research group received a research question, which they transformed into a hypothesis and then designed an experiment to test their hypothesis. Students checked, whether air has mass, whether it takes up space or how its pressure changes. Although the air is something obvious, the true knowledge and understanding of the elements of the reality that surrounds us begins with the questions we ask ourselves and also with testing our assumptions. So let’s investigate and check even what we can’t see.
