Spring picnic with game called “Palant”
Last week, 6A class went to Łazienki Królewskie park to welcome spring with a picnic and spend some time outdoors. On the occasion of this integration event, the students could take part in the workshop of a little forgotten team game, which is “Palant”. Workshops for grade 6 were conducted by Mr. Łukasz Szymborski, who is the president of PSPal. Thanks to his commitment and excellent knowledge of the rules of the game, it was even possible to play an intra-class match.
Palant- (from Italian Palla- ball; Pallante- playing a ball) is a Polish team game that has been in existence for over 400 years. According to Norman Davies, it gave rise to baseball. It was also the most popular sport in the country before World War II. Later, it disappeared or was replaced by baseball for many years. Since 2014, the Polish Palant Association – PSPal makes the sport come back. It is a very interesting form of spending free time because it does not require specialized equipment or a pitch.
In addition to the sports workshop, the students played, integrated and consumed snacks prepared by themselves. Welcome to spring can be considered successful because the weather was perfect for this type of activity. We are already looking forward to going to a green school.
