Day 1, Wednesday, March 22 – ECUADOR, grade 5A

Welcome on board! The festival “Around the world in 6 days” started yesterday! The first destination: Ecuador! The first grade to take us on a journey was grade 5A with their form teacher Mrs Marta Torres. This journey was really far, exotic and colourful! Students of grade 5A welcomed us beautifully dressed in original, traditional folk costumes of Ecuador. We learned many interesting and important things about Ecuador, for example: – what the colours of the flag mean? – what four worlds Ecuador consists of? – how big a rose can be and what the “Flower Trail” is? – why Charles Darwin chose the Galapagos for his research on human evolution? – who Diablo Huma is and why he is dancing like a madman? – how many children the world’s largest turtle can have? What language the Inca Indians speak? – what strange foods Ecuadorians eat? – why Ecuadorians are crazy about football? …and many others. In addition, we could admire original Ecuadorian handicrafts: jewellery, textiles, figurines, caskets, hats, etc. We were also greeted by real Ecuadorians living in different regions of the country. At the end, all the guests tasted the two main Ecuadorian products: chocolate and bananas. It was an intense and unforgettable day! The colourful decorations of grade 5A were created under the supervision of Kasia Grajkowska, a design and technology teacher. And the beautiful graphics were created by Marta Pokorska, an art teacher. Thank you very much! ¡Que viva Ecuador!
