Cultural Festival “Around the world in 6 days” Day 1 MAROCCO, grade 8, Tuesday 19th March
Yesterday marked the start of the 2nd Cultural Festival “Around the world in 6 days” at MYP Primary School.
Every day, one class is transformed into a distant country to which it takes the entire MYP community on a journey. Thus, in only 6 days we will visit as many as five continents!
MYP’s oldest students started the series of presentations with a colourful Morocco. They prepared a lot of activities and greeted visitors dressed in colourful traditional costumes. To start with, the girls danced beautifully to the rhythm of traditional Moroccan music. Next, we were able to explore the country’s typical clover and see the characteristic design elements of the local rooms. The eighth-graders decorated their room to resemble a market full of colours, smells, flavours, textures and ornaments. At each market stand, the younger colleagues explored the geographical location, history and culture of Morocco. At the fauna and flora stand, we learned many interesting facts, such as why goats jump up trees in this region of the world. We were also able to see, and even stroke, an agama lizard, which is naturally found in the Moroccan environment. The students also took us into the world of sport and proved that football is very popular in Africa.
The last stop was a market stand with delicacies of Moroccan cuisine. Guests tasted traditional berber whisky, which has little to do with alcohol as it is a sweet, aromatic mint tea. Guests were also treated to orange juice, almond cookies and the popular couscous.
