3rd graders’ social research
During the UOI “Communities provide interconnected services designed to meet people’s needs”, the third-graders explored the essence of local services and assessed the needs for given services, while developing the ability to think critically. How did they do it? By doing independent social research in our area!
The students took up the challenge with curiosity and interviewed local service providers in the Mokotów district. We met friendly people who were willing to answer the questions we asked about their professions. We visited a nearby pastry shop, ice cream shop, flower shop, pizza shop, antiques shop and the “Mikro-Miasto” foundation. Interviews and collected information allowed us to draw many interesting conclusions regarding the needs of local communities. Students presented their research on posters that can be seen in the school corridor. Knowing how the services in our district work, we developed the learner profile attribute “thinker” by creating our own ideas for services that could meet human needs. The students did a great job as little sociologists, proving that sources of knowledge can be found in many places as long as you are open to the world
