This week, the first-grade classes began working on a new unit of inquiry whose central idea is: “We use our imagination in order to think, create, and express ourselves.” To celebrate the start of the unit, both classes joined forces and worked together on the prepared activities. In two classrooms and in the hallway, various stations were set up where students, using their imagination, engaged in a range of tasks. Among the activities were: creating a beginning and ending to a story based on an illustration, turning fear into something funny, identifying emotions shown in pictures, drawing or describing how the brain works during effort, and thinking about what the characters in an illustration might be looking at.
It was an intense yet joyful and fun-filled time.
