Kindness Week in the PYP
At the end of November, the younger primary school celebrated Kindness Week, which started on 21 November, the International Day of Kindness and Greetings. It was a time full of warmth, smiles and good energy! 😊
On the first day, we initiated the creation of a school chain of kindness. Each class was given a chosen colour of paper strips on which the pupils wrote their good deeds. Then we linked all the strips together to form a multi-coloured chain, which became a symbol of our common kindness and cooperation.
As part of the Buddy Programme, class 4b together with class 1b organised a World Kindness Day celebration for kindergarten children at Paddington Bear Nursery School. The older pupils performed for the kindergarteners with a play about empathy and the importance of treating others kindly. They also prepared a recipe for kindness together. And at the end, as a symbol of kindness, all participants were given smiley face pins.
We concluded Kindness Week on Thanksgiving Day. Together, we decorated a turkey with colourful feathers on which we wrote reasons to be thankful. This experience allowed us to stop for a moment and appreciate all that we have.
Although Kindness Week is behind us, we hope that kindness will continue to accompany us every day – not only in school, but also outside of it. We hope that the spirit of mutual support, smiles and gratitude will continue throughout the year!
Regularly feeling grateful and doing good things for others can make us happier and reduce feelings of stress. Kindness and gratitude not only affect our relationships with others, but also our own well-being. This is worth remembering. This was the message with which we concluded Kindness Week at PYP.❤️
