How does a lock chamber work?

On Friday, April 4, 2025, students from the second grade of the PYP program visited the headquarters of the Regional Water Management Authority Wody Polskie in Warsaw. It was an excellent opportunity to summarize the knowledge gained during the project, whose main idea is: “Water is a limited and essential resource for life.” Our adventure at Wody Polskie began with an experiment on water filtration. In this simple and engaging way, the guide explained what water purification is and how it works to make water suitable for use. Following this, during a multimedia presentation, the students had the chance to showcase their knowledge about ways to save water and the water cycle in nature. They also learned something new, such as the possibility of filling a personal water bottle with spring water for just a few pennies at some stores in Poland. Afterward, they embarked on a tour of the facility where they had the opportunity to see a retention tank up close, observe how a lock chamber works, and even operate it themselves! All of this took place in the beautiful natural surroundings.
