Daedalus and Icarus

Franciszka Adamczyk

Not so long ago, in a city called Łódź, two Greek men lived their peaceful lives. Their names were Daedalus and Icarus. Daedalus was a very smart man. He was an inventor and could make almost anything he imagined. Icarus, on the other hand, was an adventurous young adult. He just turned 18. Icarus really loved his father Daedalus, who also loved him a lot.

On the day of his birthday, Icarus received his first car from his father. Daedalus knew that his son had been praying for a car and the freedom it could give him. He was really satisfied when he saw the joy in his son’s eyes as he opened the present. Although the car was small and second-hand, it was the best gift Icarus could think of.

The next morning was very exciting for Icarus. It was time for his first ever drive in his own car! Daedalus was sceptical about it due to the weather and slippery roads, but Icarus just couldn’t wait! He ignored his dad’s warnings to drive slowly and be careful. He drove at full speed through multiple turns, paying no mind to his father, who was yelling at him to slow down.

Suddenly, the amazing feeling of freedom disappeared. Icarus realised that he was losing control over the vehicle. The car slipped off the road. Both men were frightened. Daedalus, who was in the passenger seat, managed to crawl out of the wreck of the car when it hit a tree that was growing near the road. Icarus wasn’t so lucky. He hit his head on the steering wheel and went into a coma.

Daedalus called the ambulance. Help managed to get to his son in time, but he still needed to be transported to a hospital.

Icarus woke up a week later. He awfully regretted not listening to his father, who had told him to be careful. Thankfully, he never made that mistake again. He came back to his father and spent the rest of his life in happiness.
