Language policy

Our school recognizes that the study of language is the foundation for all learning. Language study, including Polish, English and Native Languages, develops international understanding, reinforces cultural identity, enhances personal growth and promotes effective communication.

We view all teachers as teachers of language, and all parents as essential contributors to the languages learning process.

We understand that the most conducive environment to language learning is a positive and encouraging one, when students have the opportunity to engage in authentic and meaningful learning experiences.

Our school values differentiated and varied instruction, which integrates the skill areas of listening, speaking, viewing, reading and writing. Language instruction considers students multiple learning styles and individual development.

Overview of the language teaching:

* Polish is the language of instruction.

* Polish as a subject is taught according to the PYP language scope & sequence documents.

* English is taught according to the PYP language scope & sequence documents and the Total Immersion and Total Physical response methods.

* Native Languages are taught through:

Native Languages instruction for all grades in groups of 10 or more children. Other languages are facilitated by arrangement.

* Linguistic Cultural Opportunities:

The school offers a multitude of opportunities to gain exposure to various languages and cultures through parent involvement, music, art, festival, assemblies, and curricular units.

Students whose native language is not English may use native language resources and language skills to help facilitate their learning within the classroom.
